fall favorites...

if  you've been around here long
you've already seen these fall favorites
but I still love them
and wanted to bring them out again.

I'm still working on this year's fall pretties
I'd better hurry up, huh?
There is still  next week.

 blogging etiquette

I'd like to address a little blogging business.

As you probably have noticed, I use comment moderation.

You may also be wondering

"Where is my comment?"

In the beginning, I set up my blog that way
 to protect from spam
and
unwanted (inappropriate) comments

But soon, I used it as a way to monitor *return visits*.

What I mean is this:  You visit me, I visit you.
plain and simple courtesy

By leaving the comments *unpublished*
I would  know where I needed to visit...make  the visit..
.and then I would  *publish*  the comment.

Somewhere during the summer,
my system failed...or I failed...or something like that.

I became very overwhelmed with all of my projects...and in the world of blogging, it was all I could do just to  post .

So consequently, I became (and still am) very behind...
like I still have comments
from the middle of September
that I haven't *published*.

Some of you have asked me
and
I am afraid that I have offended some of you.
Not my intention, at all.
What I meant to be kind, really can appear to be rude.
I get that.
I am tempted to publish them all
and start fresh
but then I get all-optimistic
and think I can conquer the list.

What I really want to say is this:

I LOVE your comments
I LOVE the encouragement you give me
I LOVE getting to know you.
and
I am sorry.

I could turn off comments altogether until I am caught up,

I could set up the email and answer directly in email form.
(I think that would be faster but less personal)

I could just publish and not visit at all,
or
I can keep plugging away at the list, keep posting,
and  probably always be behind.

The dilemma continues...
I just wanted to let you know what's been going on.
I do want your opinion on the matter.
I am going to directly *publish* all comments on this post
just sayin' :)
Thanks for your patience...you're the best!

Love your fall photos and love visiting over here too.
Great blog post and I can so relate to the time aspect in this.
We all need to balance to get time for everything.
Have a beautiful day :o)

I knew you moderated comments, but didn't know the reason you saved them. I think that is admirable of you, for I don't always get to visit those who comment though I try to. I think blogging can get busy and become a burden and it shouldn't do that. So please be easier on yourself! We understand and still enjoy your blog whether you visit ours or not.
Not offended in the least!

Hi....I do my comments the same way. I put ones I need to answer in a file and then take time to go through each of them...leaving comments. I KNOW it is a lot of work...you will get caught up - eventually!!

Hi Rene,
I love your photo vignettes..so, so pretty!
I like having comments come to my email as I can send a message back if I want to and i don't think they go back to the blog to see if I have. I wish there was a way one could have remarks posted in both the email and the comment box. In case someone else was interested in what I had to say. :/
Hope you are having a great week!

Happy to see your favorites. Great to see them often. That's why they're favorites. I'm soo OK with the comment concept. I used to try the system that you use for comments too, but life gets in the way. Some out there feel that you must visit everyone who comments. I'd love to but sometimes life just does not allow. So, as much as I enjoy your visits. I fully understand. Visit when you can. Don't stress. This is supposed to be fun.

Love your Fall Favorites! Thank you for sharing.

And thank you for letting your faithful readers know how you choose to handle comments. I'm sure they are relieved to know that you care enough to view their blogs first.

Hello. Thanks for leaving your comment on my blog this week. I did compose a lenghty reply and it was promptly sucked into the black vortex.... Anyhow I understand what you said to me and thank you for the explanation. All is good. Personally I just let all comments go straight through without moderation but then my blog does not generate the amount of interest that yours does. I have never had any offensive or in-appropriate remarks. All the best with your 'house' project and I always look forward to reading your latest blog.

Well, I am not a blogging expert, but I don't know ANYONE else who does what you do (visit everyone who comments). I know you want to keep in touch, and return the courtesy, but I don't think that anyone else expects that.

My vote is to publish any and every comment that is not offensive, and visit as your time allows. Don't let it keep you feeling behind...we have enough of that IRL!! :-)

Hi Rene,
Your fall decorations are very pretty. On the matter of the comments, I love it when you come and visit me and it's even more wonderful if you care to leave a comment to let me know you visited. It makes me crazy if I cannot comment at all (especially if I really LOVE what you're doing). I hope you leave the comment form. Have a blessed day.

xo,
Danielle

yeah- we ALL have our moments of falling behind and trying to catch up, don't we?

Personally, I like the personal emails that I get on my comments. I find it is much more personal than the comment back on the blog. Besides that, once I comment on a particular post on a person's blog I rarely, if ever, go back to see if they have responded. Just passing that along for whatever it might be worth.

I think, in the end, it is all about what we can each do..and doing what we can! xo Diana

Hi Rene, I love your Fall favorites, everything is so pretty. I know exactly what you mean, I get so behind on my commenting back to others, and I feel really bad about it. I'm like you I barely have the time to post anything. I just try to let everyone know how stressful everything is for me right now, and I feel like they really understand, so I would just let the comments go through and visit when time allows you to, I think everyone will understand!
Big hugs~~~ Daphne

It's easy to see you are a kind, warmhearted soul. I don't think you should worry about all this. Why not just start with tomorrow and go from there. I love your blogs and will likely be stopping by all the time either way. You're delightful. Don't worry about it.

I join the others in taking NO offense and urging you to be realistic in your self-imposed expectations! With all the comments you get, I'm not sure there is a way to visit everybody every time!

For me, it is enough to see your beautiful content - like these fall favorites...(Of course you're always welcome at "my places">) ♥

O.K... Number 1. Love visiting you. 2. This might should be number 1... You are oh so too hard on yourself. 3. When someone visits you in person do you immediately go over to their house for a visit? 4. Your expectations are too high. 5. You can't do it all, girlfriend...and I say girlfriend with love in my voice as how could you not be a friend when you give so much of the beauty in life through your blog. 6. I say you start fresh. Clean out like you have been doing with your home! I see a trend here of holding on to too much! Smile....You have explained yourself...everyone loves you...and if they don't ..well, they will stop visiting.7. Visit others when you have time but don't make it a rule. 8. Give yourself a hug.

I agree with Sweet Old Vintage...not keeping score here either. lol Many times I visit and can't leave comments on blogs either so off I go to Pinterest land. HA!! You do it any ole way you want to and I am happy!!

Your post was absolutely lovely as always. I say just do whatever you feel comfortable with! I think we can all relate to the time thing. I have often thought I shouldn't be blogging at all, because I don't think I do anything "properly" :)
But at the end of the day...I simply blog because I love to.....if for no-one else but me..and that's OK. We ALL love your blog!!Blessings sweet friend~~Shine

Oh, Rene! No worries if you don't visit individually. I am just happy to follow your blog, and know that I am somehow connected to you and everything you love. I feel as if you can appreciate all that we go through, family, children, crises, art, collecting, and a balance of everything that never quite evens out.

You always have such nice photos! I wish I could find the time to comment back on each comment. It does bother me that I can't and I just hope that people understand. I'm afraid if I stayed on top of everything in blogland I would never get anything else done. I think most people understand...I hope. Anyway, our intentions are good but there is so much to do in a day and the days go by soooo fast!

Blogging can be to confusing with commenting and emailing back. I;ve read how some bloggers hate to be emailed back....like why aren't you coming to my blog. Don't you like me? well to that I say if I didn't like you then why would I email you back.....silly! haha
It's all a mystery to me but glad you brought it up. It's good to clear the air!
Feels good huh?

hugs

Goodness! I have never had the idea that a blogger should do that. I follow over 50 blogs; none of them do that & I have never thought that they should.
I thought you were moderating to filter spam, but please don't put a "should" on yourself about answering. I come here because it is beautiful & I love your words, not because I believe you need to basically send a thank you note for every comment. <3

I'm thinking you'ld be chained to the infernal computer all day long and not have time to create the beautiousness you do, if you held yourself to that.

I've never commented (on any of the bazillion blogs I surf) in order to receive a reply. I only ever look for a reply if I ask a specific question, but even then, if I don't get an answer I figure life got in the way.

Go easy on yourself. In the end, it still needs to be fun, or you quit. Lifes too short to turn blogging into a guilt inducer. Remember, you are not OBLIGATED. You owe us, the readers, nothing. You're providing enjoyable interludes, ideas, and eye candy to us, free.

Now, go beautify something! :-)

I'm having a ball going through your blog from start to finish (a goal I have for blogs I like to visit) and just had to add 2 cents here.

I like to make sure my comment shows up usually. I wish you would just publish them and know we understand that if you had time, you would visit back. The price we pay for visiting great blogs like yours is that you can't visit everyone and still keep your pretty blog up.
