"White...is not a mere absence of colour;
it is a shining and affirmative thing,
as fierce as red,
as definite as black...
God paints in many colours; but He never paints so
gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily,
as when He paints in white."
-- G. K. Chesterton
To decorate a house of a room with white
means that we exchange
a range of colors for a palette of subtleties,
a spectrum of refinements.
The absence of color in white not only makes us focus on variations in tone, it increases our awareness of differences in texture ~ rough, smooth, substantial and fragile, shiny and matte ~ on the light and shadow that play on every surface.
White is an invitation for us to extend our imagination, to reconsider outworn rules, to capture the delicate, to perpetuate the illusive, to step into privacy and calm,
a world of our own invention.
We've been talking about white over here.
A lot.
I used to be a girl that liked a lot of color...dark colors.
White was just an accent.
Now, I prefer more, much more, the simplicity of white.
White cheers me up, it calms me down,
it is peaceful and serene,
it is uncluttered,
it lets my chosen accents be seen.
That is why I love white.
How about you?
