easy peasy christmas decorating...

This year, I discovered something new.
 new for my christmas decorating.
 new to me.

Are you ready?

Wait for it...

here it is:

Add christmas to my already existing decor!

pretty smart, huh?

Seriously though, this had never occurred to me .

Here is where the revelation came...thanks Suzan!

It was a lightbulb moment
and
has  made a huge difference.

My previous decorating plan included:

1.  take down existing  vignettes
2.  create brand-new vignettes
3.  figure out a way to store  all of the pre-christmas vignettes
4.  take down Christmas vignettes
5.  wait until Easter to finally have original vignettes back in place

No wonder, I always dreaded the job.

I am a changed christmas-decorator.
Really, these shelves took me all of 30 minutes to
dust, tweak a bit and add a bit of holiday cheer.
Red balls, a bit of greenery, a bottle brush tree or two

and voila
it's christmas-ey.

This on the other hand was not easy.

Pinterest is  100% responsible.
I saw this

and thought "I have all of those parts"

That is what I get for thinking.
It took waaay longer than it should have.

so, what's new about that?

My Mr. was a trooper.
He is   used to me and my ideas.
We He had to be creative
to figure out
how to put all of the parts together
and
to keep it from falling over.

We won't be taking it apart any time soon.

So we'll see it again next year.

That's OK because I love it!

The decorating of the tree?
It WAS easy, peasy
and
fun.
I used items I already had.

 measuring stick turned star

black metal house  numbers
home printed words
dominoes
kind of folksy, my girl said
I think it's fun and quirky

These photos are from our family room
where we hang out the most,
definitely less formal and frou-frouey.

And yes, the TV is behind those doors.

Just a few more things on my to-do list and we'll be all ready to celebrate.
How's  your list?

  9. Rene-It looks just beautiful. I love the tree "carrier"..it was well worth the effort in the end because it is adorable.

I have been doing things a bit easier, too, this year...a new baby changed our plans so we are fully decked out in a new, easier way this year. I may never go back to the "old way". xo Diana

  14. Terrific idea. I will probably be going the other direction. Since I have only been on pinterest for a short time, my Christmas vignettes will hopefully be staying around all year with only the Christmasy parts taken away. I am loving my new look, some from thrift stores, but mostly just gathering things that I already had around the house or stored away. It is fun looking at all these objects in a new abd fresh perspective. Your inspiration had a big part of all this, so THANK YOU.
