so whatdoya think?

Guess what we're starting this weekend?

Painting.
Are  you surprised ?
My lady is getting a face-lift.

It is time for the painters to paint their own home.
(you know, kinda like the cobbler's children having no shoes)

She has been green for 10 years
and  the house we lived in before was green,  too.
I am ready for something new.
simple, fresh, and pretty

I  want to love it
and not choose anything too trendy.
Nor too sub-division-ey.

I want to fit her style.

We have narrowed it down to
 white
or
tan/beige

I have always been a painted lady kind of girl
so the thought of me doing
white
just white
is definitely going out of my box.
I want to accent her lines and architecture
but
there will be no more stripes and other such busy-ness

Are her  textures enough to add interest?

white  says vintage farmhouse
and
that is where my style is going

this one is my favorite
I'm leaning towards the white,
can you tell?

a little photo-editing
to see what it might look like

 white (almost)

beige

so what do ya think?
linking to white wednesday...
Happy 4th if I don't talk to you again.

  2. Rene I think you are on the right track... I would love to get rid of my green but it is aluminum siding believe it or not, so it will have to stay. I love the white

  5. I love your home to start off with and think it would look wonderful in white !! hmmmmmm actually beige would be really pretty too in a really really light beige or maybe light grey ~

  8. oh My Gosh Girlie, Looks like with all the painting you just did getting ready for that great show, you wouldn't ever want to hold a paint brush again.(LOL)
Well you ask and I will share my opinion. I love color. And your home is beautiful, however I would probably go with white and let the color be in the trim. Trim color,,, don't ask me, I am awful with decisions. Our house was cedar, and getting older and thinking several years before hubby can retire, we went with vinyl siding. We went with a beige/sandstone color. Now a million times over I wish I had chosen white. Don't think you could go wrong, but it will be beautiful in her new outfit no matter what color. She has good bones. Have a great week..

  17. I love the white much better than the beige. White is timeless and had it's own loveliness. Your home was lovely in green though too, but I can see your wanting a change and understand it too.

Enjoy the process. To me painting is much nicer than the prep work.

  23. Hi Rene, I think choosing paint colors for the exterior is the toughest. Our saltbox is a beige, which is what it was before. We didn't change it much. I think I would lean toward white for your home; it's such an old classic color and your home is so pretty. There are so many different beiges and some with pink. It's hard to find a good beige . . . but there are alot of different whites too :).
A good beige color is Sherwin Williams Latte. I look forward to seeing what you decide. You have great taste, so whatever you do will be lovely.

  24. If I had a vote - it would be white. But that is what I love so much about your home, all the white I find so peaceful. Just my thoughts for what they are worth. Don't work too hard, and remember to take your water breaks.

  25. While I appreciate white it's color for me. I love painted ladies and your home has the perfect architecture for it. But the main thing is for you to be happy!

  26. Yes! White would be the right choice, love the style of the house, very pretty, can't wait to see it finished.

  32. Your house is amazing. I just went to Georgetown Texas and the victorian homes were white. I think it would be perfect for your home. Light and bright against the landsacape. Your blog is wonderful. Sincerely, Vic

  33. Your house will be beautiful in any color. But my vote is for beige, just to help bring out the detail. Or maybe you could go with a creamy white with white accents. I've always thought those colors were pretty together!

  37. I haven't visited your blog in forever, and always love seeing the beautiful things you have to share here. I love your house, and understand about change. I think if you paint it white or tan it will still be wonderful and charming! I really don't know which one to suggest?! Happy Painting!

  38. Personally, I kinda love yellow - a light yellow which would look fantastic on your home! But between white and tan/beige, I think the beige would look nice. There is a house I drive by that is beige with a pretty sagey green shutter color, white trim and it's beautiful. I'm sure whatever color you pick, though, will be beautiful!

  39. Your "LADY" is magnificent and will look fabulous in any color you decide upon. I'm also loving the other beautiful old Homes you have shared in this Post, I'm so partial to Historic Architecture... they just don't make 'em like that anymore! You will have to share your "Lady's" new look once she is complete...

  40. Oh, I think she will look absolutely stunning in white!!!! My own home was green, then yellow and now white and I couldn't be happier. Farmhouses just look so charming painted white, and the white will also show off your beautiful roses.

  41. Your house is one my little heart beats faster over. I would love to see the indoors. It is so difficult choosing colors that will be there for so long, isn't it? Good luck with that. Whatever, you have a real beauty to start with.

  42. I think white would be FAB! Your beautiful roses will just pop against a white house! Oh, I will look forward to the after pics! Your house is beautiful!

  44. Actually...I like the idea of a white-ish beige~~a little whiter than that beige, but not just white-white...
    Hope that makes sense!
Happy 4th to you & yours!

  57. I've been a fan of your blog since I found out what an actual blog was a few months back.... :)
Your posts are beautiful, thought provoking and you do do it with great style.
Your home is beautiful. I also have a grand, old Victorian that I love. It's wonderful to change "her" look from time to time...and the outcomes are always so rewarding.
In 1883 my house was green until my grandparents painted her white. White she'll be...for as long as I'm on this earth to marvel at her beauty.
Good luck with giving your beautiful "lady" her facelift. She's definitely a beauty!
