why do we love white?

"White...is not a mere absence of colour;

it is a shining and affirmative thing,

 as fierce as red,

 as definite as black...

God paints in many colours; but He never paints so

gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily,

as when He paints in white."

 -- G. K. Chesterton

White is capable of endless subtleties; ever fresh, ever responsive, it is the only color that can fill the whole house with beauty without becoming irritating, strident, or tiresome.

To decorate a house of a room with white
means that we exchange
a range of colors for a palette of subtleties
a spectrum of refinements.

The absence of color in white not only  makes us focus on variations in tone, it increases our awareness of differences  in texture ~ rough, smooth, substantial and fragile, shiny and matte ~ on the light and shadow that play on every surface.

White is an invitation for us to extend our imagination, to reconsider outworn rules, to capture the delicate, to perpetuate the illusive, to step into privacy and calm,
a world of our own invention.

We've been talking about white over here.
A lot.
I used to be a girl that liked  a lot of color...dark colors.
White was just an accent.
Now, I prefer  more, much more,  the simplicity of  white

White cheers me up, it calms me down,
it is peaceful and serene,
it is uncluttered,
it lets my chosen accents be seen.

That is why I love white.
How about you?

in christ alone...

In Christ alone my hope is found

He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt of life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
'til He returns or calls me home

Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

baby steps...

i want to show you
just a bit of my progress

You might think that it's funny
that my progress includes
yet more
vignettes
but
a good amount
of my piles
are stashes of thrifted finds

waiting to be used someday

 it. is. someday.

i am going through the piles
remembering
my plan

do i  love it?
does it reflect me?

notice the plate above?

even though it is broken

it is a keeper.

love the colors of the roses

and
i love that my girls gave it to  me.

it was a sad day when i broke it
i couldn't get rid of it
(i told you i was sentimental)

now it has a home
and
it is a happy day

i am making progress.
in baby steps

a little every day

soon you will see whole room shots

i'm also getting caught up on my *correspondence*
(that means visiting you'all)
